Raymond Blake believes passionately in wine and has travelled the globe in search of the good stuff. Along the way he has met scores of interesting people and tasted thousands of wines, a reasonable proportion of which were interesting and worth writing about. He never tires of championing wine’s endless diversity and variety and ceaselessly tries to steer people away from middle-of-the-road, safe-but-boring tipples.
As he puts it: “If you came across somebody who ate burgers and chips all the time you would surely try to introduce them to something else. Why not do the same with wine? It is not being snobbish to guide somebody towards a more interesting wine. By doing so you will be giving them a greater appreciation of it and surely that is a good thing?”
His efforts to do so have been rewarded with commissions from a host of different publications, in addition to his regular work for Food & Wine Magazine.
